Officials gather next week to discuss changes in injection well laws

WARREN — Trumbull County commissioners today expressed support for a group of township officials from Northeast Ohio meeting next Wednesday to discuss changes they'd like to see in state laws governing injection wells.

Township trustees from Trumbull and Ashtabula counties have invited officials from Mahoning, Stark, Portage, Meigs and Morrow counties to the meeting at the Trumbull commissioners meeting room at 1 p.m.

The committee has proposed 11 rule changes they say are needed to provide protection for property owners and communities near injection wells.

The trustees, led by Johnston Township Trustee Dominic Marchese, have worked on proposed changes for several months, even before the oil leak at the Kleese Development Associates injection site in Vienna Township in late March, said Jack Simon, who works on gas and oil issues for Trumbull County Engineer Randy Smith.
