Man escapes West Side fire


YOUNGSTOWN — Fire reports said a smoke awoke a person at a 431 West Heights Ave. home that caught fire about 5:20 a.m. today.

Crews that arrived found a fire showing in a bedroom on the side of the home. Reports said the homeowner told firefighters he was using a space heater in the bedroom where the fire broke out. Reports said the space heater was the cause of the fire.

Fire damage was limited to the bedroom and smoke damage was throughout the home, reports said. Damage is listed at $18,000.
