Drug take-back program in Warren going on right now, ends at 6 p.m.

WARREN — Officers with the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force will collect and destroy prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today as part of “Operation: Empty Medicine Cabinet.”

The officers will accept unused or expired drugs in original containers at the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management facilities, 5138 Enterprise Drive off of Parkman Road, near the Route 5 bypass.

The Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Opiate Task Force is sponsoring this program to limit the misuse of drugs by children and teens who often get the drugs right from their family’s medicine cabinets.

Medications accepted include: pills, capsules, patches, gels, powders, ointments, syrups, vitamins, inhalers and pet meds. Keep drugs in original containers or in sealed plastic bags. Items not accepted: needles, syringes, lancets, thermometers, IV bags, aerosol cans, hydrogen peroxide, empty containers and illegal drugs.

Other partners in this community event are the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District and the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board.
