City man arrested after beating dog
YOUNGSTOWN — Police arrested a man on animal cruelty charges about 10 a.m. Tuesday for punching a dog with a brick and beating it in the head with a glass bowl and a pot.
Police were called to the first block of East Princeton Avenue for a report of a man beating a dog. Reports said a woman told police that Jawanian Johnson, 22, came to her house and was yelling at someone on the phone before threatening to kill a dog inside her house.
Johnson went to the home's rear entrance while brandishing a brick and the woman began to hear the dog screaming, reports said.
Johnson took the dog to the front porch, threw it on the porch and hit it with the brick, bowl and pot, reports said, before the dog managed to run away.
Later, police found the dog, who is named "Snappy," on Johnson's back porch lying down amid broken glass, reports said.
The dog warden took possession of the dog. Reports did not mention what breed the dog is. There is no word yet on the condition of the dog.
