Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s Mahoning Valley Safety Council with City Machine Technologies Inc. will announce the winner of the ninth annual Joan Kovach Leadership Award today.

The award recognizes a company’s leadership in safety training, operations, funding and communications.

Nominees were members of the Mahoning Valley Safety Council with operations in Columbiana, Mahoning or Trumbull counties.

Also at the event, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation will distribute about 150 of its own safety awards issued by the bureau’s training arm, the Division of Safety and Hygiene.

Pa. Handel’s to open

CANFIELD

The 38th Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt location will open today in Hermitage, Pa.

The new franchise location is owned and operated by father and son, James and Marc Jakubovic.

It is located at 550 S. Hermitage Road, adjacent to Kohl’s Department Store. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The opening comes just after the opening of the first Handel’s location in Las Vegas.

New floral shop

COLUMBIANA

Blossoms in the Village floral shop recently opened at 14899 South Ave. Ext. , offering fresh flowers, wedding services, event rentals and upscale gift lines. The new store will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
