OSHP reports arrest and drug-confiscation totals from weekend blitz
Staff report
WARREN
The work of more than 100 troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol resulted in 40 seizures of illegal and dangerous narcotics during the 48-hour Warren Shield conducted last weekend, the commander of the Southington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
Drugs confiscated included crack cocaine, heroin, marijuana and pills. They also made five illegal-weapons arrests, Lt. Brian Holt reported.
A news release says the patrol’s Special Response Team also helped the Ohio Adult Parole Authority conduct 30 home visits and carry out three arrests for parole violations, along with seizure of one gun and one drug.
The Special Response Team also worked with the U.S. Marshal’s Service to serve 12 warrants and arrest 12 people, Holt said.
The Ohio Investigative Unit made nine arrests for violations including drug possession, food-stamp fraud, illegal-alcohol sales, and after-hours consumption and delivery of beer.
Other agencies that participated were the Warren Police Department, Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, Trumbull County Adult Probation and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.
“The cooperation between agencies in this program shows the level of commitment we all have to making the roadways safer within our communities,” Holt said.
The operation came in response to reports that Trumbull County could have a record number of overdose deaths in 2015 based on the numbers recorded so far.
County jail records showed that about 63 people were booked into the jail during the operation, which began Friday morning and ended Sunday morning. Those arrests included the numbers Holt reported but also arrests made by other agencies.
Warren police, for instance, arrested Lori R. Shrout, 38, of various addresses in Warren and Niles, at 3:11 p.m. Saturday after the driver of the car she was in purportedly made a couple of illegal turns.
One of two officers at the traffic stop saw Shrout put something into her pants. She removed a bag containing what she said was crack cocaine, police said.
Shrout was arraigned Monday in Warren Municipal Court on a felony charge of drug possession.
Bond was set at $1,500, and a not-guilty plea was entered for her.
