YOUNGSTOWN

A man who was a passenger in a car pulled over Saturday afternoon for an illegal turn on the North Side swallowed marijuana, reports said.

Jaleel Lewis, 22, of Wilkinson Avenue, is in the Mahoning County jail on $17,500 bond after his arraignment Monday in municipal court before Judge Elizabeth Kobly on charges of tampering with evidence and resisting arrest.

Reports said Lewis was a passenger in a car pulled over by troopers from the Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol for making the turn from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard about 4:50 p.m.

Reports said Lewis smelled like marijuana, and was chewing something and was told to spit it out.

Lewis refused and troopers tried to get the marijuana but he swallowed it, reports said.

Reports said Lewis told troopers he swallowed the marijuana because he was afraid what might happen to him.

Reports do not mention what happened to the driver.
