Ohio legislation would increase police officer training

COLUMBUS — The Republican leaders of the Ohio House and Senate announced plans to introduce legislation to increase educational and training requirements for new officers as part of an effort to improve interactions between law enforcement and communities.

Senate President Keith Faber, R-Celina, and House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger joined Attorney General Mike DeWine during a morning press conference today at the Statehouse announcing the proposed law changes, representing the first official movement toward codifying changes recommended by DeWine’s Advisory Group on Law Enforcement Training.
