Officials stand near the body of a man who died in a one-car crash on I-680 when his car hit a bridge after rounding a curve.

Police are investigating a one-car accident on Interstate 680 northbound just north of the Midlothian Boulevard exit that killed the male driver and closed the northbound lanes between Midlothian and Shirley Road for about three hours.

The accident occurred at about 8 p.m.

Police would not identify the victim until his family is notified.

A witness said the driver was speeding and hit a corner of a bridge that ripped the car in half.

Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV is reporting that the closed lanes have been reopened.
