LIBERTY TOWNSHIP — The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the 4:45 p.m. Sunday single-vehicle tractor-trailer crash at the intersection of Interstate 80 and state Route 11 injured Lawrence Richmond, 58, of Hammondsville, Ohio.
Richmond was westbound on I-80 in with double trailers when the vehicle went out of control in the right lane of the wet road and jack-knifed, leaving the road on the right side, striking a guardrail and concrete bridge support.
Richmond was extricated using mechanical equipment and transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Fire departments from Liberty and Vienna townships and Girard and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station responded to the scene. About 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled as a result of the crash. The semi’s trailers were empty at the time of the crash.
Traffic was diverted around the crash scene onto Route 11 north and state Route 711. The westbound lanes were closed about four hours.
