Dump day near for household hazards

CANFIELD

The annual Mahoning County Recycling Division household hazardous waste collection will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Canfield Fairgrounds, Gate 9.

Cleaning products, automotive fluids, bleach, insecticides, herbicides, acids, solvents, thinners, varnishes, stains, shellacs, wood preservatives, cylinder fluorescent bulbs and lighter fluid will be accepted.

Also accepted will be caulks, greases, oil-based paint, adhesives, roof coatings, mercury, pool and photo chemicals, car batteries, aerosol cans, propane cylinders and double-bagged asbestos.

Participants are asked to arrive with the hazardous materials in boxes in the trunks of their cars, remain in their cars and allow collection site staff to remove them.

Baby-sitting 101

BOARDMAN

Boardman Park will host a baby-sitting class from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Georgeanna Parker Activity Center at the park.

Students age 11 to 15 will learn basic baby-sitting skills, first aid, rescue-breathing and more.

The fee for Boardman residents is $40; the fee for nonresidents is $45.
