Kingsolver’s work will be group topic
SALEM
“Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life” by Barbara Kingsolver will be discussed at the May 26 meeting of the adult book discussion group, which meets at 7 p.m. in the library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St.
Registration is not required to participate. Copies of the book are available to borrow in the Adult Circulation Department.
The Kingsolver family moved from drought-stricken Arizona to the family farm of the author’s husband in Appalachia to explore a lifestyle change involving organic, locally grown foods, a lessened reliance on the fossil fuels required for transport, fertilizing and processing of foods and learning the business end of organic farming.
Kingsolver’s book is a journal of her family’s experience as they learned to live a healthier lifestyle.
Included in the book is a discussion by her husband, Steven, of business topics related to independent family farming. Her daughter, Camille, added flavor with recipes and down-home stories.
