Akron man dies in Berlin boating accident
BERLIN
One person is dead and another is injured after a boating accident on Berlin Lake, Vindicator news partner 21 WFMJ-TV reported.
Police and paramedics were called out shortly after midnight Saturday. Matt Eiselstein, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, said a fishing boat with two people on it was hit by a power boat.
The two fishermen were transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
The Portage County Coroner’s office says that Neil Cuppett, 58, of Akron was later pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy will be performed Monday to determine the official cause of death.
The accident was called in to the Portage County Sheriff’s Department by a relative of the power boat’s driver.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is handling the investigation, with assistance from the Portage sheriff.
The identity of the injured victim has not yet been released.
‘Crayfish Capers’
SLIPPERY ROCK, PA.
Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, will host “Nature Detectives: Crayfish Capers” from 2 to 4 p.m. next Sunday.
Crayfish live in a variety of freshwater habitats and emerge at night, under the safety of darkness, to hunt. After indoor introductory activities and tips on how to look for crayfish, participants will move outdoors to search for the creatures.
The Nature Detectives series is designed for families with children age 6 and older. Participants should dress appropriately. The event will take place rain or shine.
