Relay For Life team schedules a cruise-in
MERCER, PA.
PPG Reflections and Memories Relay For Life team is having a Car-Bike Cruise-In from 1 to 4 p.m. May 16 at McCandless Ford, 8416 Sharon-Mercer Road.
Driver registration is $5. There will be a 50-50 drawing, basket auction, music with DJ Rick, food, and a driver-only drawing.
All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society’s 24 hour Relay For Life planned for 9 a.m. June 20 at Mercer High School, where a butterfly release will take place at 5 p.m. at the track.
Butterflies can be purchased in memory or in honor of someone special for $10.

Library to host planting event
SALEM
Salem Parks and Recreation Department and Salem Public Library will host “Plant a Pizza Pot” at 1 p.m. May 16 in Pavilion 9 at Salem’s Waterworth Memorial Park, 866 Sunset Blvd.
With instruction from Lynn Zocolo, horticulture educator of Fellows Riverside Gardens, attendees will be provided the materials to plant their own pizza pot.
Each pot will include green pepper, tomato, basil and oregano plants. Plant a pot, take it home, nurture it and use your produce to create pizzas.
This program is free and open to the public. Register online through the library’s website at www.salem.lib.oh.us.

Historical society plans fundraiser

The Girard Historical Society is announcing its annual fundraiser to take place May 19 at the Trumbull New Theater, 5883 Youngstown-Warren Road.
The group will meet in the theater lobby for a social hour and free refreshments at 6 p.m.
At 7 the curtain goes up for “Leaving Iowa,” a comedy about family vacations.
The cost is $20 with only 172 tickets and no assigned seats. Tickets are available from any GHS board member.
Proceeds go to the support and upkeep of the Barnhisel House and preservation of artifacts concerning the history of Girard.
