CLEVELAND
A federal grand jury has indicted a 30-year-old man on charges of illegally possessing a narcotic drug while he was an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution at Elkton in Columbiana County.
The single-count indictment issued Wednesday says Albert Hewins possessed five suboxone strips containing buprenorphine on May 23, 2014.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons and the FBI and is being prosecuted by David M. Toepfer, a Youngstown-based assistant U.S. attorney.
Multiple charges
BOARDMAN
An Austintown man faces multiple misdemeanor charges after Boardman police arrested him Thursday at Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Alexander Rood, 22, is charged with theft and possessing drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after he reportedly attempted to steal a pair of pliers and mints from the store.
Police then found hypodermic syringes with residue, two crack pipes and a spoon in his possession.
Police released Rood on a summons, and he is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Mahoning County Area Court.
Disorderly conduct
YOUNGSTOWN
Reports said a man cited for disorderly conduct at a downtown bar about 1:30 a.m. Friday told a police officer giving him a ride home he hoped the officer gets shot in the head.
Reports said James England, 23, was cited after police received several complaints he was drunk and harassing women at a West Federal Street bar.
Reports said England refused several requests to leave and told police to arrest him and deal with his attorney in court.
England would not sign his citation until he was told he would go to jail. Reports said he told police they are all uneducated and corrupt and do not know the law.
Gunshots reported
WARREN
A male and female resident of the Trumbull Homes apartments on North Feederle Drive reported that a group of juvenile gang members who have been threatening them fired gunshots at them Thursday night.
The two, both in their 30s, said they arrived at their home about 9:40 p.m. and saw the group near their apartment and traveled in a different direction.
But the youths ran toward them, firing handguns in their direction. None of the shots hit them or their car.
Shots strike house
WARREN
Two gunshots hit a house in the 2100 block of Burton Street Southeast at 11:40 p.m. Thursday. A woman living there said she got on the ground when she heard the gunshots. When the shots stopped, she looked out and saw two males dressed in dark clothing running away.
Road reopened
GOSHEN
The Ohio Department of Transportation announced Friday that state Route 165 between Seacrest and Duck Creek roads in the township has reopened.
Minutes with Kosar

Mayor Bernie Kosar Sr. will begin hosting “Five Minutes with the Mayor” beginning at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Kosar asks that residents call city hall to reserve a time to meet with him. City hall can be reached at 330-533-1101. Kosar said he is copying the program from Youngstown Mayor John A. McNally.
