On April 11, students from Youngstown State University hosted the Pawerful Penguin March at Boardman Township Park. Pawerful was an event for animal charity. The group of students hosting the event were from a communications class at the university. All of the proceeds from this event were donated to The Animal Charity of The Mahoning Valley as part of a class project.
Hot dogs, raffle baskets and a march around the park were part of the amenities provided by those working Pawerful. Owners and their pets also had the opportunity to get their dogs’ paws printed while enjoying the music provided by DJ Rio, Mario Bouchedid.
“This is a great event,” Bouchedid said. “I set my stuff up and just played music.”
Jenna Latcheran, one of the group members hosting the event, said they had about 12 dogs and their owners come to join the festivities.
“We had a lot of dogs do their pawprints,” Latcheran said. “It was fun to march around the park with them.”
All together the event made $300, not including donations that were able to be made until May 1.
Bouchedid said he enjoyed doing this event and other such events for charity. He is able to do any kind of event, not just charity or park specific ones like Pawerful. Bouchedid is available to schedule future events through his email at djrionet@gmail.com or his website at djrio.net.
