Spartans finish third at championship meet
The Boardman Spartans finished third at the Mahoning County Championship meet at Fitch.
The Spartans opened the meet by placing second in the 4x800 with the team of senior Nick Long, sophomore Nathaniel Ams, junior Adam Deeley and junior Nathan Hadley. In the 100-meter dash sophomore Sheldon Broyles placed sixth overall. The 200-meter dash saw Broyles place fourth and sophomore Jeff Kollar take eighth.
The 400-meter run had sophomore Kobe Adu-Poku in eighth place. Ams and Deeley were seventh and eighth in the 800, while Hadley and Long placed second and fourth in the 1600. Hadley was the lone county champion for the boy’s team by winning the 3200 with Long in fourth.
In the hurdle events, junior Nick Cessna placed fourth and sophomore Don Lewis eighth in the 110’s while Cessna took eighth in the 300’s. Sophomore Richard Fisher placed sixth in the high jump and seniors Andrew Cessna and Dan Liptak were second and fourth in the pole vault.
In the sprint relays, the 4x100 team of Broyles, Kollar, senior Jon Cina and freshman Noah Massie finished fifth. The 4x200 team of Adu-Poku, Kollar, Massie and junior Tyler Kellam finished fifth. The 4x400 team of Broyles, Cina, Adu-Poku and junior Jarod Wolfe finished fourth overall.
The Spartans placed senior Doug Kephart and junior Jason Jama were fourth and eighth in the shot put. Rounding out the scorers was sophomore George Wallace placing sixth in the disc.
