Hilltop Elementary School students received a special visit from Lazy Town residents Stephanie and Sportacus, who came to the school to teach the children about nutrition and exercise April 1.

Stephanie challenged the students to set a new energy record on the energy meter by dancing and exercising and led the students in a dance to get their first point on the energy meter.

After the dance, Stephanie introduced Sportacus to help the students meet their goal. Sportacus told the students they need to have super hero focus to do their exercises. He then taught them his super hero pose with hands on hips.

“You don’t have to be perfect at these exercises. The important thing is that you try and you practice them,” Sportacus told the students.

His first exercise was the signature Sportacus move. He taught the students this with the help of the song, “No One’s Lazy in Lazy Town.”

Sportacus taught the students some new super hero moves and exercises as jumping jacks and tennis using an imaginary tennis racket and ball and taking on all the students in a match, which the students won, and earned an energy point.

He then taught the students about balancing on one leg and a jump rope routine using an imaginary jump rope, after which the students earned more energy points toward setting a new energy meter record.

As their last exercise, Sportacus, Stephanie and the students practiced skiing, and earned another energy point.

Sportacus then asked for help from the teachers in the audience. With three teacher volunteers, Sportacus and Stephanie taught them and the students some ballet moves, earning another energy point.

Sportacus explained to the students that people in Lazy Town call fruits and vegetables ‘sportscandy’ and how important it is to everyone’s nutrition. He went into the audience and asked the students what their favorite sportscandy was to eat.

To get the students to earn their last energy point to finally break the energy record, Sportacus and Stephanie told the students they would have to put the moves and exercises they just learning all together and do them really fast. Put to music, the students were able to pull it off and earn the last point and set a new energy record.

“To be a super hero, you must practice, eat sportscandy and you can do anything you want to do. Remember to eat sportscandy every day,” Sportacus said.

Stephanie and Sportacus then closed the show with a final dance, which the students joined.

As the students exited the gym, Sportacus and Stephanie handed out sportscandy, in the form of pears, for the students to take home and eat.
