Facing drug charges

Facing drug charges

BOARDMAN

Two township residents face drug-related charges after police searched their Shields Road apartment.

Jazmine Daniels, 21, is charged with permitting drug abuse, a misdemeanor offense.

Davonte White, 23, is charged with possession of heroin, cocaine and drug paraphernalia. He also had arrest warrants out of Youngstown and the county juvenile court. The drug- possession charges are felonies. The charges stem from a search of their apartment Tuesday after police obtained a search warrant.

Police reportedly found digital scales containing heroin residue and white residue, $225 in cash and small bags containing suspected heroin and cocaine. Daniels was released on a summons, and White was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Victim of ruse

BOARDMAN

A township woman fell victim to what police say in a report was a “utility-man ruse” when she let two men who claimed to work for the water department into her home.

The victim, 62, of Marlin-dale Avenue, who uses a wheelchair, reported to police she let two men into her house Wednesday morning when they said they had to check the pressure in her house.

The victim said one suspect attempted to distract her while another went into her bedroom.

The suspects fled after she realized what they were doing, she said. She did not think they got away with any of her property, but they ransacked her bedroom.

Accidental alarm

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County’s emergency-alert sirens accidentally sounded for a few seconds at 9:50 a.m. Thursday during maintenance work on them, Dennis O’Hara, county emergency- management director, told the county commissioners.

The work was being performed to correct a problem that caused the sirens to wail for five minutes at noon on a recent Saturday, when they should have been heard for just one minute, O’Hara explained Thursday. The county has 52 sirens, which would wail for three minutes at 10-minute intervals during an actual tornado warning.
