The 3,500 workers represented by the United Auto Workers Local 1112 recently re-elected Glenn Johnson as union president.

“It is always a honor and a privilege to represent the members of UAW Local 1112,” Johnson said.

Johnson’s second three-year term starts May 17.

UAW 1112 workers at the General Motors Lordstown Assembly Plant, Magna Seating, Jamestown Industries, Voith-Hydrochem, Kmart Distribution Center, Mahoning County Job and Family Services and Infinite Synergy had general elections Monday and Tuesday.

Johnson was re-elected to his second term as president by acclamation. Tim O’Hara was re-elected as vice president and Jim Stanton was re-elected to his fifth term as financial secretary. Michael Aurilio was re-elected to his sixth term as recording secretary, and Dan Morgan was re-elected as shop chairman of the UAW 1112-GM bargaining group.

“We are always looking to promote ourselves as a social movement,” Johnson said. “I have seen that in my last term and look forward to doing that again.”

The UAW reaches out to the community in many ways. For example, last year Local 1112 and UAW Local 1714 gave a $10,000 check to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Youngstown. The funds came from proceeds generated through the sale of raffle tickets for the 1-millionth Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze beyond the cost for the car.

In December, UAW Local 1112 hosted its yearly Care and Share food distribution at the union hall in Warren. More than 300 families in need benefited from the event.

“We try to touch as many lives as we can,” Johnson said.
