Motorcyclist injured in collision with highway patrol cruiser in North Jackson
NORTH JACKSON — A motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries after an accident involving an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser.
Lt. Nakia Hendrix, commander of the OSHP Canfield Post, said a trooper was driving northbound on Lipkey Road and stopped at the stop sign at its intersection with Mahoning Avenue and proceeded across the road.
A motorcyclist driving westbound on Mahoning Avenue struck the side of the cruiser and was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, Hendrix said of the preliminary findings. The trooper did not have any injuries. Authorities were called to the accident at 2:19 p.m.
"The highway patrol is utilizing all resources to complete a thorough investigation," Hendrix said.
Patrol officials were sweeping up metal with a broom as the last remnants of the wreck were on the roadway about 3:30 p.m.
Tim Sebulsky, owner of TNT Motors, right on the corner of Lipkey and Mahoning, said the intersection frequently has accidents.
"They need a red light so bad [here]," he said. "It's so bad to get out of here. ... You can't pull out and go left [onto Mahoning Avenue]."
