Boardman firefighter arrested for OVI

Staff report

POLAND

A Boardman firefighter is charged with operating a vehicle while impaired after he was stopped in Poland Township.

Michael Lyons, 47, of New Middletown is charged with OVI and for having a blood- alcohol content of between the legal limit of 0.08 and 0.17 when he was pulled over Sunday.

He also was cited for driving with expired license plates.

Lyons was pulled over at Western Reserve Road and state Route 170 early Sunday and reportedly blew a BAC of 0.131 when he took a Breathalyzer test.

Boardman Fire Chief Mark Pitzer said, as of now, no disciplinary action will be taken against Lyons.

“We are definitely aware of the situation,” he said. “Our goal is rehabilitation, to help somebody. To help him through this process.”

The fire department’s position, he said, is because the arrest is a first offense for Lyons.
