TORONTO

Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer, Michael Pineda matched his career high with eight shutout innings and the New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits, stole two bases and scored twice as the AL East leaders improved to 11-4 away from home, the best road record in the league.New York has gone 14-4 since a 3-6 start. Pineda (4-0) allowed five hits and struck out six to win his fourth straight road start, a streak that began in Boston last September. The right-hander has road wins over all four division opponents in that span. Russell Martin’s double gave Toronto runners at second and third with two outs in the third, but Pineda got Edwin Encarnacion to fly out. That was the only inning in which Pineda allowed multiple runners.

Red Sox 2, Rays 0

BOSTON

Mookie Betts homered to lead off the sixth inning — the first hit off Rays starter Drew Smyly — and added another in the eighth to lead the Boston Red Sox to a victory over Tampa Bay. Betts hit two solo shots over the Green Monster that Carlton Fisk cleared in the World Series. It was Betts’ first career multi-homer game. The Red Sox had lost four straight and nine of their last 12 to fall into last place in the AL East. Rick Porcello (3-2), who was the starter in Boston’s last win, pitched seven innings of shutout ball. Koji Uehara pitched the ninth for his fifth save. Smyly (0-1) took a no-hitter into the sixth, and left trailing 1-0 despite allowing just two hits in all.

White Sox 5, Tigers 2

CHICAGO

Jeff Samardzija pitched seven effective innings, and the Chicago White Sox snapped a five-game losing streak. The White Sox chased Shane Greene (3-2) in the third inning of their first win in nine days. Samardzija (2-2) allowed a run in each of the first two innings, and then pitched four-hit ball for the rest of his outing. The right-hander struck out seven and walked one. Alex Avila homered for Detroit, and Ian Kinsler had an RBI single.

Athletics 2, Twins 1

MINNEAPOLIS

Jesse Chavez struck out seven and allowed one unearned run in 7 1-3 innings and the Oakland Athletics snapped Minnesota’s five-game winning streak. Chavez (1-2) gave up four hits and needed just 87 pitches for his first victory of the season. Billy Butler had two hits and an RBI and Billy Burns added two hits and a stolen base for the Athletics. Trevor May (2-2) gave up two runs on five hits and struck out three in 5 2-3 innings. Torii Hunter had two hits for the Twins.

Rangers 7, Astros 1

HOUSTON

Kyle Blanks had three hits, including a homer, and Carlos Peguero added a two-run shot to back up a solid start by Wandy Rodriguez. Rodriguez (1-1) allowed three hits and one run — both season-bests — in a season-high eight innings to get his first win since May 26, 2013. Texas jumped on Scott Feldman (2-3) early, tagging him for four runs in the first.

INTERLEAGUE

Mets 3, Orioles 2

NEW YORK

Bartolo Colon became the first pitcher in at least 100 years to beat the same opponent with seven different teams, stopping Baltimore once again. Colon (5-1) took a shutout into the eighth inning before Manny Machado hit a solo home run with one out. New York ended its scoreless streak at 21 innings when Daniel Murphy hit an RBI single in a three-run fourth, and won for just the second time in seven games. The Orioles have lost seven in a row to the Mets overall.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Marlins 2, Nationals 1

WASHINGTON

Mat Latos and four relievers combined on a three-hitter, and the Miami Marlins beat Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals. Strasburg (2-3) left for a pinch hitter in the third inning after allowing two runs and throwing 64 pitches. Strasburg gave up four hits, walked two and hit a batter.

Braves 9, Phillies 0

ATLANTA

Shelby Miller threw his third career shutout, Freddie Freeman and Kelly Johnson hit homers to spoil Chad Billingsley’s first start in more than two years. Miller (4-1) allowed only three hits and one walk with eight strikeouts. He has not allowed more than two runs in any of his six starts. Billingsley (0-1) gave up six runs, five earned, in five innings. The right-hander fought back from two major surgeries on his pitching arm to make his first start since April 15, 2013, for the Dodgers against San Diego. Freeman had three hits, including a two-run homer in the first. Johnson drove in four runs He added a single for his 1,000th career hit.
