Boardman woman reports burglary at her township home

Township police are investigating after a Jeanne Lynn Avenue resident reported that her home was burglarized.

The victim reportedly came home from a trip Monday and discovered damage to a door frame. She also was missing two flat-screen televisions and jewelry, for a total estimated loss of about $3,000.

No suspects were seen, according to a police report.

Alliance woman charged in robbery at Family Dollar store

LISBON

Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a 58-year-old Alliance woman Tuesday for a Sunday robbery at a Family Dollar store at 7735 state Route 45.

Sheriff Raymond L. Stone said Susan R. Penland of Skunk Avenue is charged with aggravated robbery.

Reports said she was caught by an employee during the robbery attempt. The employee had Penland in a headlock and she was treated for her injuries at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where she was identified by detectives, Stone said in a news release.

Weathersfield man charged in marijuana-growing case

Anthony M. Parise, 41, of Spruce Street in Weathersfield Township was released from the Trumbull County jail on a personal-recognizance bond Tuesday after pleading not guilty to several charges related to a purported marijuana-growing operation in his basement.

Weathersfield police responded to his house April 8 and discovered three tent closets with marijuana growing lights, fans and other items used to grow marijuana, according to a police report.

They also confiscated a small plastic bag of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia.

Parise was arrested Tuesday on a warrant, and charged with misdemeanor drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and drug- manufacturing and felony child endangering.

The felony charge related to a child who lives in the house, police said.

No plea was required in Niles Municipal Court on the child endangering because it is a felony.

Revolver stolen from car parked in South Side garage

YOUNGSTOWN

Police reports said a revolver was taken out of a car that was parked in a South Side garage that was broken into sometime Monday.

Officers were called to a home in the 2000 block of Weston Avenue about 7:55 p.m., where the owner told him he found his garage door pried open when he came in.

Missing was a .357-caliber revolver, which was in the glove compartment of his car, reports said.

Free haircut anyone? Charter school hosts South Side event

Closing arguments set today in Youngstown murder case

Closing arguments are set for today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court before Judge R. Scott Krichbaum in the case of a man accused of a murder last September.

Attorneys on both sides rested Tuesday in the case of Paul Kerr, 48, who is charged with aggravated murder in the death of Lenzie Morgan, 49, in Morgan’s home in the 2000 block of Shady Run Road.

Morgan was shot Sept. 30, 2014, as the two were arguing over Morgan’s wife, and he died a few days later.

A jury was seated Monday, which was when testimony began.

Road closing in Southington is extended through today

SOUTHINGTON

The Trumbull County Engineer’s closing of County Line Turnpike Road between Stroup Hickox Road and state Route 534 bridge in Southington Township for soil boring will be extended through today.

The recommended detour route continues to be north on state Route 534; east on state Route 88; south on Hoffman Norton Road; and west on County Line Turnpike Road.

Struthers plans citywide day for cleanup at Mauthe Park

The city is hosting its annual citywide cleanup day, which will begin at Mauthe Park, 156 Smithfield St., at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. There will be a luncheon for all volunteers at the park’s multipurpose building.

The city is expecting more than 100 volunteers to take part in this year’s cleanup.

Boardman students plan pep rally for Relay for Life

Students and staff at Stadium Drive Elementary School, 111 Stadium Drive, will raise money and cancer awareness for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life at a “Purple Pep Rally” on Thursday.

Students also are asked to donate $1 to walk outside with their classes Friday. Parents are encouraged to donate and walk with their children to support cancer awareness.

Woman charged in killing

NORTH RIDGEVILLE

Police in Northeast Ohio have arrested a woman and charged her with killing her 26-year-old daughter whose body was found dumped in a field in March.

North Ridgeville police said 45-year-old Janet Tyburski was arrested Tuesday at her home in the Cleveland suburb of Lakewood. They say 26-year-old Rachele Tyburski was slain at that residence and subsequently dumped.

Her body was found face down in a North Ridgeville sports park March 15. The Lorain County coroner said the body showed marks from blunt force trauma.

, but the cause of death hasn’t been released.

North Ridgeville police are expected to release more information at a Wednesday morning news conference. It wasn’t clear if Janet Tyburski had an attorney.
