Avianna Danta, 19, daughter of Anthony and Lenora Danta of Brookfield, will represent Michigan in the Miss Collegiate America Pageant in Orlando, Fla., in July.

Danta is a freshman at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania and a graduate of Kennedy Catholic High School in Hermitage, Pa.

She is a first leader seminar ambassador at SRU, a member of the Future Health Care Administration Leaders and a YMCA-certified lifeguard. She is studying health care administration and management.

Danta was chosen to represent Michigan through her pageant sponsor, Henri’s Pageant and Prom stores in Columbus and Minerva, Ohio.

The pageant system strives to provide personal and professional opportunities for young women, and it provides scholarships.

Following the guidelines of the U.S. pageant, contestants will be judged in a personal interview, in runway fashion and evening gown competition, and on personality and poise.

The national platform for Miss Collegiate is BRAVE, which stands for Building Respect and Values for Everyone. It promotes anti-bullying messages through classroom, library and community presentations to school-age children and their parents.

Danta is a first-time pageant participant. She plans to use the BRAVE platform in her community. She has presented anti-bullying messages to grade schools, performed community service to such local charities as Hospice of the Valley Mardi Gras, Potential Development, Children’s Aid Society of Mercer County, Heather Habura Showcase Premiere for PACER, an anti-bullying awareness group, and to the Pittsburgh American Diabetes Association.
