The polls are open for today’s primary from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Turnout is expected to be very low — about 25 percent in Mahoning County, 15 percent to 20 percent in Trumbull County, and 15 percent in Columbiana County.
About one-third of eligible voters can cast ballots in Mahoning County. There are only citywide races in Youngstown and Struthers. There’s an additional school levy in South Range and a new levy in Craig Beach.
About two-thirds of voters in Trumbull County can vote with the highlights being the race for mayor of Niles and a Lakeview school bond issue.
Columbiana County has a county sales-tax renewal issue on the ballot.
Gardening hot line
The Penn State Master Gardeners in Lawrence County has opened its hot line for the 2015 season.
The master gardeners can answer questions on a variety of topics including growing vegetables, fruits, ornamentals and turf grass, plant identification, pruning, and insect and disease problems.
To help with identification and diagnosis, plant and insect specimens can be brought to the Lawrence County Extension office located on the third floor of the courthouse, 430 Court St., New Castle, Pa., during hot-line hours.
Master gardeners will be on duty from 9 to 11 a.m. Mondays; 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays; 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to noon Fridays. Call 724-654-8370 to speak with them.
