ELECTION UPDATE | Carcelli ahead in early voting in Struthers Dem mayoral primary

YOUNGSTOWN — With early votes counted in Mahoning County, Ronald Carcelli has a nearly 2-1 lead over challenger Danny Thomas Jr. in the Democratic primary for Struthers mayor.

Also early voters in the South Range School District are voting 2-1 against a 4.9-mill additional school levy.

In Youngstown, incumbent councilmen T.J. Rodgers, Nate Pinkard and Mike Ray, in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th wards, respectively, have strong leads over their challengers.

In the council races for nonincumbent seats, Mike Write leads in the 1st Ward, ex-Councilman Michael Rapovy leads in the crowded 5th Ward race, Anita Davis, a retired city police officer, is ahead in the 6th Ward, and Basia Adamczak is ahead in the 7th Ward.

Turnout is expected to be light in this primary, and early voting is following that expected trend with only 2,178 early-voting ballots cast.
