CHLORINE FACTS

Properties: Greenish- yellow in color, its density is 21/2 times heavier than air and sinks to low areas.

Uses: Disinfect water, swimming pools and sewage; food-processing systems; pulp and paper mills; and water-cooling systems.

Physical effects: Irritates the nose, throat and lungs and can lead to bronchitis, asthma, headaches, heart disease and meningitis.

Treatment: Immediately move to fresh air; flush eyes with water for 15 minutes; remove contaminated clothing and shoes; wash skin with plenty of soap and water.
