One woman was arraigned for spitting on a police officer several times, and another was arraigned for resisting arrest Friday in municipal court in separate incidents.
Judge Robert Milich set bond at $2,500 for Shawnickqwa Odem, 19, of Wells Court, who was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Reports said officers were called to her home about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday for a fight. When police got there they found Odem arguing with several people, reports said.
Reports said Odem ran into her home, and when police asked her to open the door, she opened the door and tried to punch an officer. The officer blocked the punch, and Odem was handcuffed and taken to the Mahoning County jail.
Assistant City Prosecutor Shelli Freeze told the judge that Odem has a previous conviction for assault on a police officer in 2011 and she served a prison term for that offense.
Also arraigned for spitting on a police officer Sunday at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital was 43-year-old Jennifer Mayer of Williams Road in Diamond. She is in the jail on a charge of harassment by bodily fluid, a fifth-degree felony. Bond for her was set at $10,000 during her arraignment.
Reports said police at the hospital were called about 4:30 p.m. Sunday to deal with Mayer, who was a patient but was causing trouble for nurses and doctors. Reports said officers found her in a stairwell and she calmed down and went back to a treatment area.
In the treatment area, however, she became belligerent and then spit on an officer’s face. Hospital staff went to put a spit mask on Mayer, but just before they could, she spit in the officer’s face again, reports said.
Reports said Mayer was screaming and she told police it would not be the first time she was arrested. Freeze said she does have previous charges, mostly in Geauga County.
