YOUNGSTOWN

A Night to Honor Mary will take place at 7 p.m. Friday in St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., and at 7 p.m. May 22 in St. Michael the Archangel Parish, 3430 St. Michael Blvd. NW, Canton.

Bishop George V. Murry of the Diocese of Youngstown will preside at both of these devotional services. All are invited to the services that will include Scripture readings, a homily, hymns and recitation of the rosary.

Spring concert

YOUNGSTOWN

Ambassadors for Christ will sponsor a spring benefit concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 827 Wilson Ave.

Musicians and singers from each of the member churches will join together to give praise to God in this musical event. The theme is “Break Every Chain.”

Those attending are asked to bring either canned or nonperishable food items, which will go to Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley. A free-will offering also will be taken for the mission and outreach of the Ambassadors for Christ.

Ambassadors for Christ, an organization of churches on the East Side of Youngstown, is celebrating its 16th year. Members are Holy Apostles/St. Stephen of Hungary Catholic Church, Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Mount Zion Baptist Church, St. James Church of God in Christ and We Walk by Faith Bible Church.

Pastor anniversary

CAMPBELL

Greater Missionary Baptist Church, 66 10th St., will celebrate the sixth anniversary of Pastor Carl Anderson and his wife, Sharon, during worship at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

Speakers will be the Rev. Lee Moore and minister Cheryl Thacker.

After the service, members will go to Cheddar’s restaurant in Boardman.

Women’s luncheon

STRUTHERS

St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, 97 W. Washington St., will sponsor a mothers’ and women’s luncheon at 2 p.m. May 10 at St. Mark’s banquet hall, 3650 Logan Way, Liberty.

Guest speaker will be the Rev. Wyleeia McCrary-Moxey, pastor of Hatcher Chapel in Cleveland.

Recognition event

LIBERTY

Youngstown Councilman T.J. Rodgers will present an award to Pastor Lock P. Beachum Jr. during worship at 11 a.m. Sunday at Victory Christian Center, 114 E. Liberty St., to recognize his work in the community.

Pastor Beachum and his wife, Gloria Beachum, lead services.

The Beachums, through the ministry of Operation Impact, have worked with many families, individuals, businesses, schools and local churches to respond to needs within the community.

Among activities are: adopting a block in the Liberty area called Green Acres, where neighborhood cleanups, block parties and holiday distributions take place; sponsoring a backpack giveaway to benefit some 300 students; having a Thanksgiving food drive; providing pre-game and practice meals for Liberty and East high schools’ football teams and catering a lunch for teacher appreciation week; partnering with Martin Luther King Elementary School to provide a backpack food program; visiting area nursing homes; and providing free coffee, doughnuts and bus passes for WRTA riders.
