“Lights! Camera! Action!” premiered March 31 at Robinwood Lane Elementary School in Boardman. Fourth-grade students worked on the production of this show for the spring concert with music teacher Dean Wilson.
This show in particular, however, had more significance than any normal spring concert. It was Wilson’s last concert – after this school year he is retiring.
Principal Donald Robinson set aside time at the end of the performance for special announcements in regards to Wilson’s last concert.
“This is about as long as they would let him teach,” Robinson joked. “His love of music love of music and love of teaching knows no bounds.”
Wilson laughed, saying he gets many of his students now coming to him and saying that he had their parents while they were in school years ago. He joked that he fears the day someone says he had their grandparent.
Gifted to Wilson from various students, parents and faculty were a gift card, season tickets for a theater, a letter written by every child and a quilt signed by every fourth-grade student on stage that night.
Wilson thanked his students not only for his gifts, but for yet another successful production and fun spring concert.
“It is my distinct pleasure to have worked with Boardman schools for 40 years,” Wilson said. “How wonderful [it is] to do what I love to do in a community that values the arts as much as Boardman.”
