Baby animals celebrate spring with shower

The Farm Animal Baby Shower on April 12 brought out all kinds of babies — both animal and human.
Brenda Markley helped host the event at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm. Markley has been with Mill Creek MetroParks since 1990 and helped come up with the idea and the inception of Farm Animal Baby Shower Day in 1992.
“Springtime is a time of rebirth, so we thought, ‘Let’s do baby animals,’ and it’s just kind of grown from that — it coincides,” Markley said. “We’ve got spring, birth and babies.”
The baby shower is usually an event that draws in the crowds. Rather than having two buildings open like they do during normal season, for this event the farm has four, giving their guests more freedom to roam.
“Everybody loves babies,” Markley said. “Whether it’s the babies — four legged in the cages or the babies that are two legged looking at the animal babies. It’s just babies in human form or animal form.”
The baby shower helped families celebrate the warm weather and oncoming spring season and happened to fall on the right day.
“This is an annual event, kicking off the fact that the farm is now open to the public,” Markley said. “It was just kind of an idea of we need a special event at the farm.”
Mill Creek MetroParks Farm is open to the public from April to October.
