Warren police investigate three weekend gunfire incidents, two resulting in arrest

Staff report

WARREN

A 55-year-old city woman was one of the targets of three gunfire incidents in the city over the weekend.

The woman reported she was driving a car near the intersection of Parkman Road and Swallow Street at 10:18 p.m. Saturday when she heard gunfire near her car.

A friend of hers, a 45-year-old city man, was walking nearby and ducked under the car to avoid being hit. Neither the woman nor the male was hit by the gunfire, but the car was hit on the passenger side.

An officer in the area said he heard 10 to 12 shots being fired just before he saw the woman’s car traveling away at a high rate of speed. She stopped the car in a restaurant parking lot on West Market Street and advised the officer what happened.

Police also were called to South Feederle Avenue Southeast at 3:40 p.m. Sunday for gunshots and arrested Kaylan B. Taylor, 20, of Overlook Drive in Hermitage, Pa., on misdemeanor charges of discharging firearms, carrying a concealed weapon and criminal trespass. No injuries were reported.

Taylor pleaded not guilty on Warren Municipal Court on Monday morning and was released after posting a personal-recognizance bond.

In a third incident involving a gun, Edward P. Pemberton II, of Roosevelt Street Northwest, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon after his arrest at 6:45 a.m. Sunday after he purportedly fired a gun four times on Ratliff Avenue Northwest.

A neighbor said he was sitting in his living room when he heard four gunshots, then saw a man outside who appeared to have a gun in his hand. Police spotted Pemberton not far away at Tod Avenue and Mason Street Northwest and arrested him. There were no injuries.

A not-guilty plea was entered for Pemberton in Warren Municipal Court to felony carrying concealed weapons. He pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of using weapons while intoxicated, discharging firearms and possessing a defaced firearm. Bond was set at $3,500.
