Guardian Angels of Ohio, a volunteer program of the Trumbull County Probate Court, is looking for new volunteers. Angel volunteers receive training to become advocates who reach out as friends to seniors who may need a friendly phone call, a visit in a nursing home, or a visit at home. Angels also are involved in planning special events for seniors, such as health fairs and Make a Difference Day projects. Lighting the Way is a series of sessions on aging. It’s a free program to help seniors and their families cope with the many decisions that come with advanced age. The first session, Accessing Community Resources on Aging, will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. April 18 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2860 E. Market St., Warren. Lisa Solley of the Area Agency on Aging will lead the session and give information about PASSPORT, what it is and how it can help you with what you need. She will explain what every family needs to know about programs and services that are available. Afterward, representatives will discuss assessing needs for health care services, provision of meals at home, local senior centers, Veterans Affairs and moving to assisted living or long-term care. Light refreshments will be provided by area nursing care facilities. The series continues monthly through August at various locations. Niles SCOPE Senior Center is offering three motor coach trips. The first is to Mountaineer Casino on April 7 for a cost of $22. The casino is offering $25 in free play and discounting the buffet to $5. The bus will leave at 8 a.m. from Niles and return at about 4:30 p.m. For information call the center at 330-544-3676 or stop in the center. Payment must be made to reserve a seat. The second trip is May 5, 6 and 7 to Holland, Mich., to visit tulip gardens, Dutch Village, DeKlomp Wooden Shoe and Delft factory, Windmill Gardens and DeZwaan Windmill and reserved seats at the Volksparade. The cost of $357 per person based on double occupancy covers two nights’ lodging, two breakfasts, two dinners and luggage handling, taxes and gratuities. The deadline to register is Wednesday. The third event is a one-day trip, “It’s Wine O’Clock in Cleveland” with Anderson Tours and a pick-up in Niles. The tour will leave at about 9 a.m. May 27 and travel to Cleveland to board the Nautica Queen for the “Memory Lane Big Band Era Cruise and Lunch Buffet.” After the cruise the group will visit three wineries.
