POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

March 21

Attempted burglary: A resident in the 900 block of Saul Drive suspected someone had tried to enter the home via the basement after a door jamb was damaged.

March 23

Recovered property: A hypodermic needle was found in a washing machine at a business in the 300 block of West Liberty Street.

Drugs: Police responding to a complaint on West Liberty Avenue took Joseph M. Peace, 27, of Trumbull Avenue, Hubbard, into custody on a probation-violation charge. Peace also was handed a minor-misdemeanor citation when, authorities said, a suspected marijuana pipe and a small bag containing a green leafy substance thought to be marijuana were found.

March 24

Assault: Nicholas S. Shelton, 20, of Moore Street, Hubbard, faced a simple-assault charge after his girlfriend alleged Shelton had torn out a chunk of her hair during an argument.

Theft: A West Park Avenue woman reported the theft of a FedEx package containing $112 worth of merchandise.

March 25

Identity fraud: An East Park Avenue woman found out someone without authorization had filed a 2014 income-tax return with her Social Security number.

Summons: Police issued a summons to Pamela I. Sawyer, 46, during a traffic stop near North Main Avenue. Sawyer, of South Hazelwood Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with driving under suspension and displaying fictitious license plates.

LIBERTY

March 21

Arrests: A traffic stop near Colonial Drive led to the arrests of Jessica L. Benson, 23, of Plazaview Court, Youngstown, on charges of driving under suspension and obstructing a police officer; Gail Johnson, 41, of Hudson Avenue, Youngstown, on a charge of wrongful entrustment of a motor vehicle; and Kalen Robinson, 22, of Hoyt Street Southwest, Warren, on one count of obstructing official business. Benson also was wanted on a warrant and Robinson provided a false name, a report said.

Theft: A Belmont Avenue man noticed two unauthorized debit transactions totaling $598 had been made to his checking account.

Arrest: Elizabeth A. Sellars was taken into custody after police had pulled her over near her Trumbull Avenue residence. Sellars, 43, of Girard, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.

Domestic violence: David Wright, 50, of Trumbull Court, Liberty, was charged with the crime after his girlfriend alleged that during an argument, Wright had threatened to strike her with a vacuum cleaner and made a move to do so before she called 911.

Arrest: Authorities answered a dispute call near Trumbull Court before taking Gloria Khoury into custody. Khoury, 38, of Logan Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on two city warrants.

Recovered property: A 2002 Pontiac vehicle was found near Ravine and Denver drives after a Warren man had reported it stolen. The driver led police on a pursuit before fleeing on foot with two other people, a report showed.

Arrest: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed Deon Burley, 40, of Forestview Drive, Youngstown, to Liberty police. Burley was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

March 22

Arrest: Warren police handed to township authorities Jennie M. Stano, 38, of Austin Avenue Southwest, Warren, who was wanted on a warrant.

Arrest: Township authorities took custody of James L. Foster, 42, of Poplar Street, Niles. He was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Drugs: Officers responded to a Belmont Avenue motel regarding a property dispute, where they charged Timothy P. Craik, 34, of Oak Forest Drive, Niles, with criminal simulation as well as possession of heroin, drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia after alleging having found a tin used to prepare heroin, a syringe with a liquid resembling heroin and a large assortment of syringes, spoons and powder. Also arrested was Traci M. Barber, 30, of Southern Boulevard Northwest, Warren, on a warrant.

Arrest: McDonald police relinquished custody of Roy M. Davis, 39, of Ohio Avenue, McDonald, who was wanted on a township warrant.

March 23

Aggravated menacing: A Logan Arms Drive woman alleged a 12-year-old student had sent her daughter a text message in which the student threatened to shoot the girl.

Citation: Joshua A. Foster, 31, of Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Girard, received a minor-misdemeanor citation during a traffic stop near Gypsy Lane. He also was wanted on a Warren City Municipal Court warrant.

March 24

Arrest: Hubbard Township police handed Brandy N. Jones, 34, of Plazaview Court, Youngstown, to Liberty authorities. She was wanted on an outstanding Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Drugs: Authorities received a call about two people possibly passed out in a vehicle on Belmont Avenue before charging Timothy A. McGowan, 29, of Lincoln Street, Masury, with possession of drug-abuse instruments. McGowan had a syringe and a teaspoon with carbon marks, a report showed.

Menacing: Several employees with a Belmont Avenue business alleged an intoxicated co-worker had made threatening and irrational statements toward them.

March 25

Arrest: Police picked up Carl Wallace, 46, of Idora Avenue, Youngstown, on a township warrant.

Harassment: A worker for a Belmont Avenue business said that a Wilmington, Del., woman has sent the accuser such a text message, in violation of a protection order.

Arrest: Austintown police transferred custody of Renee A. Beshara, 58, of North Meridian Road, Youngstown, to Liberty officers. Beshara was wanted on a township warrant.

March 26

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue led to the arrest of Spencer A. Brown, 26, of East Boston Avenue, Youngstown, on felony charges of having prohibited items in a detention facility and possession of crack cocaine and heroin, as well as on a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. One bag each containing 14 grams of suspected heroin, 10.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine and a dose of an over-the-counter medication were found, as was a digital scale, police alleged.

GIRARD

March 22

Arrest: Niles police handed Lakeif T. Johnson of Warren to Girard authorities. Johnson, 32, was wanted on a Girard warrant.

Theft: A Washington Avenue woman discovered an Ohio Direction card and $60 missing from her purse.

March 23

Assault: An East Liberty Street woman alleged another woman had punched her face, injuring her jaw, and tried to throw the accuser down a flight of steps during an argument pertaining to the suspect’s children.

Harassment: An Oak Street man said he received the latest in a series of such calls that have persisted for nearly two years.

Attempted burglary: A man in his mid- to late 20s wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and boots was reportedly seen lifting a window screen in an effort to enter a residence in the 10 block of South Randolph Avenue.

Burglary: Took place in the 500 block of Mosier Road. Stolen was a 52-inch TV.

Theft: An East Liberty Street woman reported a $640 laptop computer stolen.

Domestic violence: Ronald G. Madden, 38, of Elruth Court, Girard, was charged after his girlfriend alleged Madden had sent her a threatening text message, then attempted to kick down her door during a heated argument, causing the accuser to fear for her safety.

March 24

Assaults: Officers answered a disturbance call in the 200 block of Church Hill Road, where four people reported having been punched, slapped or pushed into a wall.

March 25

Arrest: Police picked up Michael A. Greene, 21, no address listed, who was wanted on a Lake Milton warrant.
