Cockrell to play softball at Muskingum University
From her early start at 5-years-old in Florida, to a first and third baseman in Ohio, this Canfield High School senior is starting a new journey. Cockrell has committed to continue her education and softball career at Muskingum University in New Concord. Muskingum’s softball program is a member of the OAC and has captured 19 conference championships, including 2014, eight NCAA Regional Championships and one NCAA National Championship, made the NCAA tournament this past season.
“I am extremely excited to have Darby as an incoming student-athlete here at Muskingum. She is a top notch competitor and has a passion for winning. She will fit in very well and have a successful career in our program. Her versatility as an athlete is something that is very beneficial and we are looking forward to working with her and seeing where she will settle into our line-up,” said Kari Winters, Head Softball Coach at Muskingum University.
Cockrell is currently a member of the Silver Creek Starz 18U Elite Showcase Team, playing first and third base, where she leads her team in many batting statistics, including home runs.
At Muskingum, Cockrell plans to earn her BS in Nursing, and then continue on to become a Nurse Practitioner.
