BREAKING NEWS | EGCC selects its new president

STEUBENVILLE — Jimmie Bruce, vice president for academic success at Northwest Vista College in Texas, is the new president of Eastern Gateway Community College.

The college made the announcement this morning. July 13 will be Bruce’s first day.

“It was a very, very difficult decision,” John Gilmore, chairman of the EGCC trustees said. “We had four excellent candidates we were debating over.”

Bruce will earn $155,000 annually. Laura Meeks, president for the last 15 years, earns $143,000 annually.

“The market value for a president of a college of this type — we’re not overpaying him,” Gilmore said.

Meeks had turned down pay increases three times, he said.
