Bottom Dollar future still unknown

YOUNGSTOWN — Delhaize Group, the Belgium-based parent company of the Bottom Dollar stores, announced today it has finalized the sale of its 66 Bottom Dollar locations to ALDI Inc.

The fate of the four shuttered Mahoning Valley Bottom Dollar locations is still unknown.

ALDI purchased the locations for $15 million. The sale was initially announced in November after Delhaize Group announced it would leave the discount food market to focus on the traditional supermarket segment.

The locations in the Mahoning Valley include: 890 E. Midlothian Ave. in Youngstown; 2649 Glenwood Ave. in Youngstown; 3777 Mahoning Ave. in Youngstown; and 1756 North Road SE in Warren.

All of those locations closed in January. About 100 local employees were affected by the closure.
