Ohio mom pleads not guilty to decapitating her baby daughter
CINCINNATI (AP) — An Ohio woman accused of decapitating her 3-month-old daughter has pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated murder.
A court official says 20-year-old Deasia Watkins was arraigned today in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court in Cincinnati. Her attorney entered the plea for her.
Judge Charles Kubicki ordered that Watkins be transferred to the Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare facility in Columbus for a psychological evaluation. He also increased Watkins' bail from $500,000 to $5 million.
Watkins was arrested last week after her daughter, Jayniah, was found decapitated and stabbed multiple times on a kitchen counter in the Cincinnati home of an aunt who was caring for her. Prosecutors say they won't seek the death penalty.
