Gardening Basics: Garden Design Theory II

When: Friday, 10 a.m.-noon.

What: Garden Design Theory II class builds on material from first class and expands students’ ability to look at gardens through eyes of designer. Bridget Beck, garden designer, will introduce students to some famous and not-so-famous gardens and examine why they “work” in terms of design, then examine current gardening projects and brainstorm ideas and solutions as a group.

SIGNS OF SPRING HIKE

When: Sunday, 2-4 p.m.

What: Join this guided walk with Dr. Chuck McClaugherty to search for signs of the spring season. Please dress appropriately for spring weather and trail conditions. Cameras are encouraged.

Where: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center Visitors Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE, Minerva.

WOODCARVERS WORKSHOP

When: Monday, 6:30 p.m.

What: Beginners and those just curious about woodcarving are especially welcome. Attendees must be at least 18 years old to participate.

Easter Arrangement

When: Tuesday, 6:30–8:30 p.m.

What: Create a beautiful arrangement for your table. Marie Borocz will lead you in arranging with carnations, mums, baby’s breath, and colorful faux Easter eggs.

BIRDS BEFORE WORK!

When: April 6, 7-8:30 a.m.

What: Join Naturalist Adam Zorn on the Nickel Plate Trail in Louisville for a morning bird walk.

Where: Meet at Nickel Plate Trail Head on Pinevale Ave., Louisville

Cost: Free

Details: Great for beginners and experienced birders. Level, paved walking surface. Bring your binoculars. Canceled for inclement weather. RSVP requested.

SCHOOL GARDEN WORKSHOP

When: April 7, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

What: This workshop is for those interested in starting or working with School/Youth Center Greenhouses and Gardens. We’ll cover all kinds of garden activities and resources to get your school garden rolling.

Where: Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, state Route 46, Canfield.

Cost: $35/person, includes lunch, handouts, and activities to take home.
