Two men will be arraigned today in Warren Municipal Court after a police officer in an unmarked car reportedly saw one of them get out of a stolen vehicle in front of the Pit Stop gas station, 1708 Youngstown Road, and fire three shots at the business.
Robert S. Burkey, 23, of Mayfield Avenue, Youngstown, is charged with felonious assault after purportedly firing the weapon. He also is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Juchard Duncan, 24, of Brier Street, Warren, is charged with felony offenses of receiving stolen property, failure to comply with the orders of a police officer and resisting arrest.
In a police report, Lt. Martin Gargas reported that he was sitting in his unmarked car in front of the gas station at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when he saw a plum-colored Jeep pull up at an entrance to the gas station and the passenger fire three times toward the gas station.
The vehicle drove away with the officer in pursuit until the two men bailed out on Thomas Street Southeast. The officer followed on foot to the former Design Coatings building, where Gargas waited for backup. Burkey and Duncan were arrested a short time later inside the building.
Three shell casings were recovered from the location where the shots were fired. One fragmented bullet was found next to one of the gas pumps. No one was injured.
A 19-year-old city woman, owner of the Jeep, arrived at the location where it was abandoned and reported that it had been stolen from a home on Highland Avenue Southeast. She said she had left the keys inside.
