A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

March 19

Burglary: To a residence in the 2400 block of West Manor Avenue through a rear window. About $1,500 worth of jewelry was taken.

March 22

Arrest: A traffic stop near Arrel and Struthers roads resulted in the arrest of 46-year-old Kelly J. Dempsey of McIntosh Road, Wellsville, on a Columbiana County warrant charging fraud.

BOARDMAN

March 19

Assault: Michael A. Grande, 41, of Tippecanoe Road, Boardman, was taken into custody on two counts of assault after having been pulled over on U.S. Route 224. Two employees with a Boardman-Poland Road realty company alleged Grande assaulted them during a fight after he had been terminated.

Drugs: Police in the 7100 block of Market Street pulled over and arrested 39-year-old Robert T. Porter IV of Woodland Drive, New Middletown, on a felony drug-abuse charge and on one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Porter had a substance that tested positive for crack cocaine, as well as two devices used to smoke crack, a report said.

Harassment: A Cheriwood Court man said an acquaintance has sent him nine days’ worth of threatening text messages.

Identity fraud: Rochelle R. Kelley, 26, of Buffalo, Ohio, surrendered on a felony identity-fraud charge after a woman reported Jan. 29 that while moving from a Market Street apartment, she received an outstanding $350 utility bill pertaining to a North Lima address at which she had never resided.

Menacing: A worker for a Boardman-Canfield Road realty firm reported a former employee twice had driven past the business, honked his horn and made obscene gestures toward her.

Theft: William J. Navarro, 37, of East Philadelphia Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing an iPhone case and a wristwatch from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Harassment: A Buchanon Drive woman said her former son-in-law had sent her offensive text messages.

Identity theft: A Stoney Creek Drive woman discovered that a fraudulent income-tax return had been filed in her name.

Identity fraud: A Mathews Road man found out someone without authorization had used his Social Security number to file a 2014 income-tax form.

Criminal mischief: Authorities arrested 20-year-old Ian T. Fox at his Ewing Road home on a criminal-mischief charge after a March 7 incident at Walmart in which the Boardman man was accused of spraying on the floor a substance used for shining tires.

Theft: Officers in the 8100 block of Market Street picked up Jesse L. Shiflett of East Myrtle Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on two theft counts. Shiflett, 20, was accused of stealing merchandise earlier this month from Dick’s Sporting Goods, 550 Boardman-Poland Road, and Family Dollar, 4026 South Ave.

March 20

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a residence in the 7600 block of East Parkside Drive via a rear door, then damaged a set of French doors, a banister and a linoleum floor. Damage came to about $1,600.

Aggravated menacing: An employee with a Doral Drive big-box store alleged a co-worker’s husband threatened to kill him after overhearing a statement the accuser purportedly had made to the worker.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 6000 block of Applecrest Court was found with a dent in its hood.

Criminal mischief: A Canfield woman in the 1300 block of Boardman-Canfield Road saw that ice cream had been placed on her car.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A worker for a Market Street business alleged her former boyfriend took her 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt without permission.

Domestic violence: Michael L. Ifft, 42, of Sugartree Drive, Boardman, was charged with the crime after his stepson alleged Ifft had shoved him during an argument, placed the accuser in a head lock and repeatedly punched him. The victim had swelling and a small cut on his forearm.

Identity theft: A Glenwood Avenue man discovered his Social Security number and date of birth had been used without consent to file an income-tax return.

Harassment: A Monroeville, Pa., woman said her former husband contacted and harassed her while she was in the 6500 block of Market Street.

Robbery: A Warren woman at a Doral Drive big-box store told police a man in his 20s wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and a goatee tried to steal her wallet as she approached her vehicle.

Theft: Someone stole a $2,000 dragon statue from Sawa Steakhouse in Southern Park Mall.

Theft/drugs: Police on Market Street pulled over a vehicle they said had been stolen in Toronto, Ohio, before charging James A. Shimmel Jr., 36, of Toronto with theft, receiving stolen property and possession of drug-abuse instruments, as well as John J. Orlando, 36, and Scott A. Gilmore, 43, both of Steubenville, with possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Shimmel also had a stolen bank card; in addition, several used syringes and a soda can with a brown substance were found, authorities said.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into Modarelli’s Sparkle Market, 4121 South Ave., through a front window and took 20 cartons of cigarettes valued at $1,186.

Harassment: A Mayflower Drive man said he received a text message containing a threat to beat him up.

Incident: A township woman suspected her grandmother of buying a pizza for her and placing a flower on the accuser’s car, in violation of a protection order.

March 21

Aggravated menacing: An employee with a business in the 4100 block of Market Street alleged a co-worker had threatened him with a pistol.

Theft: Two women reportedly stole a $49.50 sweatshirt from Victoria’s Secret Pink in Southern Park Mall.

Burglary: Police responded to a report of a gunman in the 3900 block of South Schenley Avenue, where they charged Mia J. Johnson, 24, of Rosewood Avenue, and Ceira M. Buckner, 27, of Ferndale Avenue, with burglary. The building’s owner held the two Youngstown women at gunpoint after they purportedly had entered an apartment without permission, though no signs of forced entry were found, a report stated.

Theft: A Hubbard man at a Southern Boulevard home-improvement store noticed a trailer hitch had been removed from his truck.

March 22

Arrests: Authorities at a Market Street motel took into custody Zachary T. Soles, 23, of Nassau Court, Youngstown, who was wanted on a probation-violation charge as well as on misdemeanor warrants charging theft and falsification. Also, Deanna L.M. Hoppa, 21, same address, was charged with obstructing official business when, police said, they found Soles hiding in the room after she had denied he was there.

Theft: A 16-year-old New Castle, Pa., boy was accused of taking a $44 iPhone case from Best Buy, 561 Boardman-Poland Road.

Trespassing: Chad E. Kimble, 32, no address listed, was charged with criminal trespassing after police said he refused to leave the Southern Park Mall’s food court area. Kimble had been issued a criminal-trespassing warning, a report said.

Theft: Timothy P. Hardy, 56, of Sunnybrooke Drive, Boardman, was charged in the theft of a digital- camera power pack from Best Buy.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 6300 block of South Avenue placed sugar in a vehicle’s gas tank and did an estimated $500 in damage.

Theft: A man stole several hair trimmers from CVS Pharmacy, 7230 Market St.
