9 hospitalized after Canton apartment fire

CANTON, Ohio (AP) — Fire officials say at least 9 people were injured and sent to local hospitals after an apartment fire in the city.

The Canton Fire Department says reports of a fire at a large multiunit apartment complex about 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Responding fire crews caught at least three children dropped by their parents from third-floor windows. A man jumped from the same floor, injuring his ankle, and a woman was taken down a ladder.

Fire officials say four children, four adults and a firefighter were injured.

The Canton Fire Department said in a release that the fire was contained within several minutes, but the building remained full of smoke and heat. Fire officials estimate the fire caused about $250,000 in damage to the structure and its contents.
