YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested three people on heroin charges over the weekend.

They also found a large amount of marijuana plants.

Officers responding to an alarm at a home in the 1300 block of Hawn Street about 1:35 a.m. Saturday found Joseph Felder, 43, of Youngstown, passed out in a bed from being drunk, reports said.

Reports said officers found three bags of suspected heroin, a bag of suspected marijuana and a pill on a nightstand next to Felder. Money was found on a nightstand and in a wallet; scales were found in the kitchen, along with a security camera, reports said.

Felder was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of heroin and possession of drugs.

Also arrested was Catherine Getsy, 26, of Lowellville, who was arrested on a charge of possession of heroin after a dose of the drug was found in her car about 3:35 p.m. Saturday after a traffic stop at South and Hilton avenues.

Reports said the heroin was found by a police dog.

Police found Christopher Harrison, 30, of Austintown, passed out in the bathroom of the McDonald’s restaurant at 2525 Market St. about 6:50 p.m. Saturday. On the floor next to Harrison, police found a syringe, a bottle cap with suspected heroin residue and an individual dose of heroin.

Harrison was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital by paramedics with a police hold on charges of possession of heroin, possession of drug-abuse instruments and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

On the West Side about 6:40 p.m. Friday, police found 95 marijuana plants in a home in the 100 block of South Portland Avenue.

Reports said police received a complaint that someone was growing marijuana in the home, and when officers arrived, the owner, Thanh Ngo, 44, admitted he was growing marijuana in the basement when officers told him why they were there.

Reports said he allowed police to search his home, and they found three areas in the basement used to grow marijuana and found 89 marijuana plants there.

An additional six plants were found in the attic, reports said.

Ngo was given a citation for illegal cultivation of marijuana. The plants were seized by the vice squad.
