Monopoly, the classic American board game for hard-core capitalists, turned 80 years old last week. Here are five things you might not know about the game:

v Creator: Charles Darrow of Philadelphia developed the game in 1933 and sold it to Parker Brothers on March 19, 1935.

v Pieces: The original game Darrow sold to Parker Brothers contained items from his own home. The houses and hotels were made from wooden molding scraps, and the die-cast tokens were inspired by Darrow’s nieces, who recommended metal charms from charm bracelets be used. The first 10 tokens were an iron, purse, lantern, race car, thimble, shoe, top hat, battleship, cannon and a rocking horse.

v Popular parcels: The three most landed-on properties in the standard game are Illinois Avenue, “GO” and B&O Railroad.

v Cash total: The total amount of money in a standard Monopoly game is $20,580.

v Champions: Every few years, national champions from around the globe meet for the Monopoly World Championship tournament. The most recent winner was Bjorn Halvard Knappskog from Norway in 2009, winning the game in 41 minutes, 30 seconds. This year’s championship will be in September in Macau, China.

“Pretty Little Liars” (8 p.m., ABC Family): The fifth season ends tonight.

“Alan Arkin: LIVE FROM THE TCM CLASSIC FILM FESTIVAL” (8 P.M., TCM): The “Little Miss Sunshine” actor shares stories from his life and career.

“The Mindy Project” (9:30 P.M., FOX): Season 3 comes to an end.

“SURVIVING MARRIAGE” (10 p.m., A&E): “Surviving Marriage” is a blend of “Survivor” and couples therapy. It’s a bizarre reality series that sends troubled couples to a South Pacific island for five days to try and rectify their marital problems. Apparently, mai tais are not included.
