If the upcoming display of a van Gogh painting at the Butler museum has inspired you to learn more about the genius artist, you’re in luck.

Local actor Rodd Coonce will stage “Vincent,” a one-man play about the artist, at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in his performance space at Dorian Books, 802 Elm St. on the North Side.

Coonce is a veteran actor who has performed “Vincent” multiple times over the years. The play chronicles the artist’s life and includes a multimedia presentation depicting some 200 of his works.

It was written by the late “Star Trek” actor Leonard Nimoy.

Tickets are $20, and reservations are suggested; call 330-743-2665. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

“Vincent” originally was scheduled for March 6-8 but had to be postponed because of a boiler breakdown in the Dorian Books building. The malfunction proved to be fortuitous, because the rescheduled dates coincide with the opening of the van Gogh exhibition, of which Coonce had no prior knowledge.

It was the second coincidental event that spurred interest in the production.

The original run was to begin just one week after Nimoy’s Feb. 27 death.
