State approves $83K for equipment at state prison in Youngstown

COLUMBUS — The state Controlling Board today approved $83,100 for new food-service equipment used to feed prisoners at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown.

The list includes a tilt skillet, a convection oven, dishwasher, mixer and ice machine, all to be used at the penitentiary’s prisoner camp.

According to documents, “The dishwasher is no longer operational, and the remaining equipment was distributed to other institutions when the camp closed approximately three years ago. The proposed purchases are needed to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner once the department reopens the camp in early summer 2015.”

The equipment is being purchased from Louis R. Polster Co. of Columbus.
