Wildlife officers resuscitate poached sturgeon in California

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

State wildlife officers resuscitated a 66-inch sturgeon and cited the man who pulled the fish from the Sacramento River.

Janice Mackey of the Department of Fish and Wildlife said March 12 that officers spotted the suspected poacher along the river near Clarksburg the previous week.

The man hooked a very large fish and drove off with it in the bed of his pickup truck. The officers immediately pulled the man over and brought the large, untagged fish back to the riverbed, where they rocked it back and forth, moving water over its gills.

After 20 minutes, the fish gained the strength to swim away.

Fishing for white sturgeon, which are native to California, is highly regulated. They can live to 100 years old.

Meth lab is discovered inside Wal-Mart restroom in Indiana

MUNCIE, Ind.

A restroom at a Wal-Mart in eastern Indiana has been closed indefinitely after an employee discovered a working meth lab inside.

State police say a Wal-Mart employee alerted police after seeing a man he described as suspicious enter the restroom about 11:30 p.m. Thursday with a backpack and leave without it. The Star Press reported that members of a state police meth-suppression team removed the dangerous chemicals.

Delaware County Health Department inspectors closed the restroom and a nearby women’s restroom until they could be “decontaminated” by a professional cleaning company.

State police say people who make methamphetamine are leaving “the deadly explosive chemicals in public places to return later to get the finished product,” rather than risk explosions and contamination at their own homes.

Smell like a Whopper: Burger King will sell cologne in Japan

TOKYO

For hamburger aficionados who want the smell even when they can’t get a bite, Burger King is putting the scent into a limited- edition fragrance.

Burger King said Friday that the Whopper grilled beef burger-scented cologne will be sold only on April 1, and only in Japan.

Sounds too good to be true? It’s not an April Fools’ Day joke, though the company chose the date deliberately.

The limited “Flame Grilled” fragrance can be purchased at 5,000 yen — about $40 — including the burger. There will be only 1,000 of them.

Burger King said it hopes the scent would also seduce new grill-beef burger fans.
