Orlando tops US destinations for spring travel

ORLANDO, Fla.

Orlando is the nation’s top destination for travel this spring.

AAA said recently that Orlando was the No. 1 travel destination this spring based on hotel bookings at its website, www.AAA.com.

Florida’s theme park mecca was followed by Los Angeles; San Diego; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Miami.

AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins says travelers were looking at warmer destinations after the harsh winter in many parts of the Northeast.

About 2.5 percent of flights were canceled, down from 6.5 percent a year earlier.

Envoy Air, which operates many American Eagle flights for American Airlines, finished last, at 60.4 percent. Envoy also had the highest rate of mishandled bags.
