New dog legislation

WARREN

The Trumbull County commissioners, dog warden and Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County will have a news conference at 10 a.m. today at the county commissioners meeting room, 160 High St. NW, to discuss legislation they believe is necessary to protect companion dogs from neglect and/or cruelty as a result of being left outside during the cold weather.

The organizations will suggest changes that can be made to local ordinances, using one in Cleveland as a model. Among the key parts of the legislation are prohibitions against tethering companion dogs during extreme weather conditions or on unoccupied properties.

Airmen and contractors from the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station today were to load about 90,000 pounds of humanitarian goods headed for Guatemala onto a C-5 Galaxy, the Air Force’s largest airlift aircraft.

The humanitarian goods are being transported via the Denton Program, which allows private United States citizens and organizations to use space available on military cargo planes to transport humanitarian goods, such as clothing, food, medical and educational supplies, and agricultural equipment and vehicles, to countries in need.
